In a future where optimizing urban spaces will be a pressing need, due to the increasing number of vehicles on the road, shared mobility will be a sort of social need. Nevertheless, for many people the desire of a private, exclusive and non-shared space will represent a fundamental component their mobility.

Audi Crisalis is an answer to this need. It’s inspired by the calash, where the cabin (private) is separated from the traction system (shared) and it’s designed to save space when stored.

The main body is made of two half-shells with a shape memory material in between that can fold, reducing the capsule volume. The closed shell is unhooked from the external propulsion modules, and it’s housed in a vertical position inside a dedicated parking station.

The interior is also designed to collapse together with the capsule, thanks to the flexible polymer of the seats frame. The flexibility of the body is reflected in the layout: a wide and comfortable single seater or two seats facing each other.

The whole capsule, ceiling and floor, is made of special glass that allows to change the transparency in order to customize the privacy level, and it’s supported by a double-spine structure that bring character to the vehicle.
